A Lakewood taxpayer opening his eyes

To The Esteemed Va’ad=aka BMG / Askonim / Va’ad hamosdos, etc of Lakewood NJ
I actually thought of submitting this letter back in April right after the BOE elections but waited until now to send it in wanting to make sure my views weren't a knee jerk reaction but rather reflecting my & others feelings after careful consideration and reconsideration. I'm writing this letter after viewing the results of the LAKEWOOD BOE Elections.
I hope the askonim realize the days of telling people who to vote for, basing your opinions on yourself serving interest=$$$ for your school, pet projects, real estate exchanges under the table deals etc are over.

The public at large can’t and won’t continue to shoulder the tax burden at its expense, for the few to reap the benefit while the rest of us see our taxes continuously rising year after year out of control and have services cut.

I think a complete overhaul is in order both at the BOE as well as the township level including but not limited to the planning / zoning boards as well as the Township committee

TERM LIMITS may be one answer to the problem of keeping costs down w /o giving up or cutting services and taxes won’t keep rising. If one is voted in and is there for a longer period of time he becomes comfortable in his position and doesn't need to prove himself or be on guard looking over his shoulder.

Once a politician is entrenched in his position there are all sorts of situations which can lead one to lean or vote one way for ulterior, self serving interests or motives. If there were term limits in place say for 4 years then the people who run to actually help and serve the public have actually done their civic duty will now help the public by stepping down.

Thank you-now let someone else come in and help the public if the real reason why people run for office is to help the public they help the public by leaving when their term is up as well and make room for someone else to serve the public.

With out getting personal, some of the newer elected committee members who ran on a platform of cutting spending have actually delivered. While the longer elected members may be fulfilling their civic duties they aren’t necessarily fair and balanced to the public as a whole but lean towards following the wishes of their connected powerful friends.

TERM LIMITS would in most cases eliminate people becoming too comfortable in their elected positions not being able to promise anyone anything for too long being their terms aren't that long and if needing to be reelected every 2 years gives the public a chance to check their record what have they delivered to better the town, mosdos, the public. We tend to forget that THE TZIBBUR IS MADE UP OF INDIVIDUALS.

Decisions affecting the public in order to benefit a few mosdos in the name of benefiting the tzibbur are at a minimum misleading and dishonest .Perhaps illegal as well, using public money to fund projects that benefit a few individuals vs. the rest of the township.

I don't mean to point fingers at anyone in particular, as on a personal level I think all the elected committeemen are good people but not everyone has acted or voted on the merits of the issues being voted on w/o outside private interests influencing their voting decisions

Sincerely yours,

a long time citizen of Lakewood NJ
Sorry, I can't forgive for the dollars that were taken from me.

There's much more to be said.

there is much more to be said-one being that the days of people listening to the vaad are long gone. And that is a good thing. People finally have the brains to vote as individuals and not "what BMG wants."

Sorry but the new boe def has not been doing any better. They paid their new law firm 149 THOUSAND DOLLARS in just the FIRST MONTH!! They are spending very irresponsibly & between me & all of u here they are gr8 at making a tremendous chillul Hashem by lacking all basic social/people skills.

The guy in the cartoon shaking money out of an upside down citizen is wearing a top hat & coattails. Shouldn't he be wearing an uphat & frock instead?

thats the problem, a mashgiach or askin etc... thinks he is just doing his job as a mashgiach or askin but in reality he knows that he is falling into corruption, & has the power to stop it but doesn't (say its not kosher or it can't be done) & thats the yetzer hara that convinces him that he's not doing anything wrong. its my job to be in power in kashrus or in politics... therefore i can tell them not to do it even though they are really allowed to & THATS CORRUPTION. & THATS WHEN THEY START TO BRING THEMSELVES DOWN & CAUSE THEMSELVES DESTRUCTION R"L

It's been out of style for the Rabbonus for over a hundred years, but the German ger who was in BMG in the 1970s wore a top hat.

i think the above letter reflects the feeling of many living in lakewood but are too scared to come out publically and say or do something about it.(only yudel s has the guts to go out on a limb)
but take heed at the polls we can make a real diffrence
the last election had no real viable candidte running against the incumbents. too little was done too late to have any impact.
If you put up a candidate who is respected, fair and understands all sides of the issues and shouldnt be meshelunu (if it wasnt meshelunu the powers that be wouldnt throw him/her under a truck as they do to the heimish opponents running against their interests.with the right backing from people who are respected they would be a formidable candidate against BMG?VAAD SELF INTREST CANDIDATEs
dont misunderstand me i dont mean to take $$$ and entitelments away from our mosdos etc for what they deserve and whats coming to them fair and square and above the law what im against is the back room maneuvers cogen/minor league/land swaps/mini leage aka BMG PARKING LOT etc
as the article aptly points out the tzibur is made up of individuals and you must take into account how your back door political shenanagens will affect the struggeling home owner paying 5-10 tuitions, highest taxes in NJ,paying more for kosher food then NY(what happened to the coop???)and forced to attend a tent event party to show hakoras hatov to BMG.For what exactly may i ask?am still scratching my head trying to figure out why
perhaps for having 70 houses tax free and we are footing the bill. or is it for you ruining complete neighborhoods 7TH and princton/forest ave/9th-10th st bet clifton/lexington aves(calling a meeting but not giving anyone a chance to speak up as in russia) causing traffic jams over town each and every day. or perhaps for
throwing the parents of special needs children out of yeshiva when they came out publically opposing stars which offered 1/2 the service shai was giving.
all so that BMG could make a few $$$$$$ and enrich themselves to the detriment of disabled children.
the list goes on left out most of it.
when will yashrus and common sense win out.even our rabbonim are bought or silenced.no wonder moschich isnt here and we have so many issues here in town
RABOSI AD MUSI!!???
